SANDY - Northridge showed Friday night that they have many weapons in their offensive arsenal and if you try to shut down one of them, their are others that will beat you.

Such was the case against Jordan as QB Junior Cole hooked up with Chris Washington on a 7-yard pass with just seven seconds remaining to give the Knights a difficult road win over Jordan 41-37.

Cole, who was making his first varsity start at QB was solid in his debut. He was 14-21 for 214 yards and added an additional weapon by rushing for 86 yards on 14 carries. Cole threw for three TD passes and rushed for two others in the game.

Jordan bottled up star RB Peni Maka’afi for most of the night, limiting him to just 63 yards on 16 carries. Chris Washington came up big for Northridge, making an interception and hauling in crucial passes including the game winner.

If Northridge can continue making the right adjustments at the right times they are going to be very tough to beat. The offensive line plays with heart and can overcome size that they do not have. Their skill players are the best I’ve seen since the state championship teams. Junior Cole can pass like a quarterback and run like a halfback. This gives the Knights the weapons they are going to need to compete in a talented Region 1. On the defensive side of the ball Northridge continues the tradition of aggresssive persuit. With some good defensive adjustments, the Knights were able to counter the Jordan Offense, shutting down everything that the Beetdiggers were doing well. The only glaring weakness that I saw was that they were unable to stop the quarterback draws up the gut. But then again, Jordan had some big, fast boys on that front line and the Knights may not see an offensive line like that again for the rest of the season. At least not until they meet Crespi.
